3 Upsets And Talking Points From Singapore GP 2023

1 years ago By Sports Desk

The Singapore Grand Prix never fails to deliver drama and excitement, and the 2023 edition was no exception. From unexpected upsets to nail-biting battles, here are the top three talking points from this year’s Singapore GP.

1. Carlos Sainz Ends Red Bull’s Dominance

The Red Bull Racing team, led by Max Verstappen, had been on a record-breaking streak of 10 consecutive wins. However, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz had other plans. Sainz, starting from pole position, orchestrated a masterful race strategy to secure his second victory in Formula 1.

Sainz’s race was all about tire management and timing. Despite an unplanned pit stop due to a safety car, he executed a flawless long stint on hard tires, fending off the competition. Sainz even allowed Lando Norris to get closer to help him with DRS, showcasing brilliant teamwork. In the end, he crossed the finish line with just a slim 0.812-second lead, breaking Red Bull’s winning streak and earning well-deserved praise.

2. George Russell’s Heartbreaking Last-Lap Crash

George Russell, driving for Mercedes, was poised for a podium finish in Singapore. Armed with fresher medium tires than the leaders, he was in a prime position to challenge for the win. However, as the race reached its climax, disaster struck. On the final lap, Russell’s hopes were shattered as he crashed while in third place.

This late-race drama not only denied Russell a well-deserved podium but also provided a stunning twist in the battle for the top spots. It was a reminder of the fine line between success and disappointment in Formula 1.

3. Ferrari’s Resurgence

The 2023 season started with struggles for Ferrari, but the team has made a remarkable comeback. Carlos Sainz’s victory in Singapore marked the second consecutive race win for the Scuderia. With a renewed sense of purpose and impressive teamwork, Ferrari now finds itself back in contention.

This resurgence is not only a testament to the team’s determination but also adds a new layer of excitement to the championship battle. The competition is heating up, and it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top by the end of the season.
