Maverick Vinales Anticipates Different Challenge at Portimao Circuit

8 months ago By Sports Desk

After a difficult start to the season, Aprilia team Maverick Viñales is optimistic and looking forward to a new opportunity at the Circuito de Portimao in Portugal. The Spanish driver performed well in Qatar but is determined for a new ride at the next event.

Unable to match teammate Aleix Espargaro’s impressive results in Qatar, Viñales believes there is room for improvement. He finished 10th in the sprints, 9th and 10th in the Grand Prix.

Despite this result, Vinales led the heat of the day, showing promising potential for the future. He emphasized that while there are details to improve, such as bike balance and adapting to new aerodynamic changes, he is confident in the team’s ability to develop.

The Spanish driver emphasized that the next race in Portimao will be “a different story”. He is sure that different tracks and unfamiliar conditions will give Aprilia the opportunity to show her true potential. Viñales expressed optimism about Qatar’s ability to learn from the challenges it faces and apply those lessons to Portimao.

One area Vinales intends to improve is the bike’s cornering behavior, especially with the front tires. He noted that the bike’s new aerodynamics affected the front grip, creating difficulties under braking. However, he is confident that the team can find a solution to these issues before the next race.

Viñales emphasized that the 2024 Aprilia RS-GP shows improvements in aspects such as launch and acceleration, which is promising for the future. He is committed to working closely with the team and exploiting the bikes’ full potential to achieve even better results in Portimao.

Although Aprilia’s standout performer in Qatar was Alex Espargaro, Viñales is determined to show his strength in the next race. He is looking forward to the unique challenges that the Portimao circuit presents and is confident that he can compete at the highest level.

With the support of April’s team and his own personal determination, Viñales is ready to take on the next challenge in Portimao and show his true potential on the track.
