Recap: 2024 NASCAR Food City 500 Results from Bristol Motor Speedway

8 months ago By Sports Desk

The 2024 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway will go down as one of the most exciting races of the NASCAR season to date. The race was full of action, overtaking and drama from start to finish, with Denny Hamlin emerging victorious.

Hamlin, a native of Virginia, led 163 of the race’s 500 laps, demonstrating his command of the demanding Bristol circuit. With a lead of 13 through the race, he dominated the race to take his first Food City 500 victory and extend his Bristol record to four victories.

The race was a real battle for tire management, with drivers having to balance the pace by conserving tires over 500 laps. The challenge was compounded by the cold and the use of new adhesive on the track, which caused the rubber to accumulate and made overtaking at the top of the track more difficult.

Hamlin’s teammate, Martin Truex Jr., also turned in an impressive performance, finishing second after a strong battle with Hamlin in the late stages. Leading the race by eight, Truex showed his ability to adapt to track conditions and stay in contention until the end.

Another highlight of the race was the early performance of Ty Gibbs, who led 137 laps and won the first two stages of the race. Gibbs showed off his driving skills at Bristol Motor Speedway, but gave way to more experienced drivers as the race progressed.

The 2024 Food City 500 also set a new NASCAR short track record with 54 lead changes among 16 different drivers. This number of lead changes reflects the competitiveness and unpredictability that makes sprint racing so exciting for fans.

NASCAR fans were treated to a truly memorable race as the Food City 500 presented an exciting and unpredictable spectacle. Hamlin’s win and intense competition throughout the race solidified Bristol Motor Speedway as one of the most prestigious and challenging tracks on the NASCAR calendar.
