Aprilia: Losing Two Riders “Not Ideal,” But Optimistic About Marco Bezzecchi

6 months ago By Sports Desk

Aprilia is undergoing an important transition period with the addition of Marco Bezzecchi to its factory team for 2025, following his departure from Ducati. Bezzecchi will join Jorge Martini at the Aprilia team, who is leaving the VR46 team to become a factory MotoGP rider for the first time.

Bezzecchi’s signing with Aprilia was confirmed on Monday, marking a new chapter in his career. However, the 2024 season has been difficult for Bezzecchi, especially after an excellent second year in MotoGP in 2023. His adaptation to the GP23 bike is proving problematic, but the Aprilia team is confident in his potential.

Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing, expressed his positive expectations for Bezzecchi, despite the problems the driver has encountered this season. “He comes from a very competitive bike, but the good thing is that he wanted to be with us and ride our bike,” said Rivola. “He saw the potential of our bike and he feels it can give a good performance. I think it will give a good performance. Maybe it will take some time at first to adapt, but I am confident that it will be very fast very soon.’

The arrival of Bezzecchi and Martin creates a formidable duo that can compete with Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Márquez at Lenovo Ducati. However, both drivers will be new to RS-GP, which could affect their initial results. Rivola admitted that the change of the two factory managers was not ideal, but remained optimistic.

“To change two drivers is not ideal. Continuity usually means more performance, but when you have two talents like that, you have to be very optimistic and know that you have to fight for the championship,” said Rivola. “We have two of the best talents of the last few seasons and we can find no excuses not to offer them the best bike.”

The decision to appoint Bezzecchi reflects Aprilia’s ambition to compete at the highest level. The team believes that, despite initial adjustment problems, Bezzecchi and Martin will bring positive results in the long term. Rivola stressed the importance of providing the best structure and support to his young riders to ensure Aprilia is ready to fight for the title.

The 2025 season will be crucial for Aprilia as they look to consolidate their position in MotoGP with a new line-up of riders. Expectations are high and the team is determined to overcome initial challenges and achieve success. With Bezzecchi and Martin on board, Aprilia hopes not only to compete, but also to take wins and ultimately the championship.

The upcoming season will bring many thrills and challenges for Aprilia, but with an optimistic approach and strong determination, the team is ready to face what lies ahead and fight for its place at the top of MotoGP.
