Isle of Man TT Rider Anthony Redmond Updates on Gruelling Recovery Process

4 months ago By Sports Desk

Anthony Redmond, a rider who suffered a serious accident at the Isle of Man TT, has shared an encouraging update on his recovery. The accident occurred at Bungalow, leading to the cancellation of a Supertwin race due to wet track conditions. Redmond was airlifted to the hospital with multiple severe injuries.

Redmond’s wife initially described him as “very, very lucky to still be here,” detailing his numerous injuries: a broken jaw, broken teeth, broken shoulder, broken vertebrae, fluid in the lungs, multiple rib fractures, a lacerated kidney, compound fractures to the left leg, and both ankles shattered.

In a recent social media post from the hospital, Redmond provided a detailed update on his condition. Despite the challenging circumstances, he expressed positivity and gratitude.

“A quick update – feeling good today as it’s my first day getting dressed for a few weeks,” Redmond wrote. “I’m pretending to be on holiday with shorts and a Calippo in Broad Green, Liverpool.”

Redmond described his medical journey, mentioning that he had been transferred to Broad Green Hospital in Liverpool after spending some time at Aintree following the crash. He underwent several surgeries, including the fitting of cages on both legs. He shared the progress he has made, including getting up and taking a few steps with support, and the removal of lung drains, which has significantly improved his breathing.

“I am feeling 100% positive, and that’s mainly due to all my family and friends who are supporting me 100%,” he stated. He also expressed his sincere thanks to everyone who helped during and after the accident, including the marshals, spectators, critical care workers, event organisers, and his personal sponsors.

Redmond reflected on his achievements at TT 2024, celebrating a personal best lap of 122.7 mph during practice, despite the crash. He expressed optimism for the future, acknowledging that participating in TT 2025 might be ambitious due to the time needed for his leg bone to heal. However, he remains determined to work towards regaining his fitness while ensuring his safety.

“Love to all the biking family,” he concluded, demonstrating his enduring passion for the sport and the supportive community around him.

Redmond’s recovery journey serves as a testament to resilience and determination, inspiring not only motorcycle enthusiasts but also anyone facing significant challenges in their lives. His positive spirit and ongoing gratitude are a powerful reminder of the impact of community support and personal strength in times of adversity.
