Las Vegas GP 2023 Saturday Qualifying Race Day Result And Report

In a thrilling storyline at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari won Friday night’s qualifying to take the lead going into Saturday’s competition. But the happy occasion for Ferrari was clouded by uncertainty when teammate Carlos Sainz, who was involved in a dramatic incident during Thursday’s practice, was penalized ten places on the grid because a backup car was required.

Qualifying Triumph for Leclerc:

Friday night’s qualifying session saw a spectacular comeback for Ferrari as Charles Leclerc turned in a standout performance to secure pole position. After a difficult start to the Grand Prix weekend, Ferrari exhibited remarkable resilience, paving the way for a thrilling race on the 3.85-mile street circuit.

Sainz’s Misfortune:

Despite Ferrari’s overall success in qualifying, Carlos Sainz’s misfortune overshadowed the team’s achievement. Sainz encountered severe damage to his Ferrari when he ran over a open drain/manhole cover during Thursday’s practice. Forced to switch to a backup car, the regulations imposed a 10-place grid penalty on the Spanish driver, positioning him 12th on the starting grid for the main event.

Ferrari argued against the penalty, contending that the damage resulted from the track surface. However, the FIA, responsible for overseeing Formula 1, had no provisions in its rules to grant an exception, resulting in the upheld penalty.

The Spherical Celebration:

As a symbolic moment of celebration, Charles Leclerc’s image was broadcast on The Sphere, an iconic structure overlooking the Las Vegas street circuit. The grandeur of winning the pole position against the backdrop of this visually striking monument added to the spectacle of the occasion.

Verstappen’s Pursuit:

Max Verstappen, the the champion  from Red Bull Racing, secured the third spot in qualifying, showcasing his determination to secure an 18th win of the season during Saturday night’s race. The championship battle between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton has kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the season.

American Rookie Shines:

In  notable achievement, American rookie driver Logan Sargeant, representing Williams, delivered his best qualifying effort of the season. Sargeant’s performance, securing the seventh spot, marked a promising highlight in the world of Formula 1.
