Max Verstappen Sole F1 Driver in Top 10 for 2023 European Sportsperson of the Year

10 months ago By Sports Desk

In 2023, Max Verstappen, the Dutch Formula One sensation, reached yet another significant milestone. The only Formula One driver to appear in this year’s top 10 PAF European Sportsperson of the Year list is Max Verstappen, a Dutchman.

The PAP (Polish Press Agency) presents the European Sportsperson of the Year award every year. A panel comprising 27 worldwide news agencies assesses the performances and accomplishments of both male and female athletes at the end of each season.

With only a few races remaining in the season, Max Verstappen enjoyed a record-breaking 2023 season, winning 19 of the 22 races and taking home the championship at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Even with such a flawless season, the Dutchman finished second on this year’s European Sportsperson of the Year list, trailing only the five-time winner, Serbian Novak Djokovic.

The Serbian tennis superstar, who is also arguably the greatest of all time male player in the history of Tennis, had a humongous 2023 season in tennis two. He had won 3 of the 4 existing grand Slams with reaching the finals of each of it. He has won the Australian, French and the US open and finished 2nd at the Wimbledon where he lost to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

Verstappen, the Dutchman has already won three F1 titles in a succession, yet he has not yet been named European Spokesperson of the Year. European Sportsperson of the Year has been won by numerous Formula One drivers in the past. Remarkably, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have each won the prize twice, while seven-time Formula One winner Michael Schumacher has won it three times.
